My son is almost 6. He's been complaining of headaches nightly for probably a week now. Honestly, I thought he was just complaining to stall bedtime. Today he's really not acting normal. He didn't get a smiley face at school for the day (the first time since school started in August), he was a monster with his dad when he came over for his weekly visit (very unusual), and apparently was acting up in Kindermusik (this has never happened since he was 2). My mom picked him up and called me (also strange, she's only a few minutes from home) and said he was coughing really bad and that he's screaming about having a blinding headache. That it hurts every time he takes a step. Now, migraines do run in our family, but a cough? Behavior change?
Would you take him to the E.R. or just call the doctor in the morning? Is there anything you'd check for before you made that decision? The change in behavior and the actually breaking down in tears over a headache has me worried, and I'm not a worrier by nature.?
ETA: My mom also said he's extremely nauseous.?
