Amir Khan still planning to face Floyd Mayweather Jr. ? Boxing News

Briton fighter Amir Khan is hopeful of scoring a dominant victory against American unbeaten fighter Carlos Molina. Khan, who is going through a rough patch in his career, has not yet given up on his dreams of fighting pound for pound kings Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather. The former WBA and IBF unified champion believes a win against Molina can get him closer to a fight with either Pacquiao or Mayweather.

?It's one of the steps I have to take to fight the best out there, the likes of [Floyd] Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao,? Khan said in an interview with Boxing News TV. ?But I'm taking it one step at a time, I'm not looking at the big fights.?

Khan insisted that he is in a career rebuilding process and that the fight against Molina is an important one for him.

?This fight for me is a huge fight. I need to win this fight first and move on to bigger and better things. I'm hungry to become a world champion again, so it's all about beating these guys up, getting my titles back again and facing one of the super-names.?

Khan has faced two consecutive losses recently. He lost his IBF and WBA titles to American fighter Lamont Peterson last year in December. However, since the decision was controversial and later Peterson was found guilty of using performance enhancing drugs, Khan?s WBA title came back to him. Khan covered up the loss by revealing several irregularities in the fight.

He then went onto face American unbeaten fighter Danny Garcia. To Khan?s dismay, he lost to Garcia via fourth round knockout. He suffered the first knockout in the fight during the third round by a huge left hook by Garcia. Khan could not get back to his game and so the fight was stopped during the fourth round by the referee.

Later on, in several interviews, Khan agreed that his defence was weak against Garcia. However, instead of taking up the charge, Khan blamed trainer Freddie Roach for his incompetence and fired him. Now, Khan is working with trainer Virgil Hunter to revamp his career and improve on his defence.
