An active weather pattern will continue in the East on Monday as the remnants of Isaac move very slowly toward the east through the Lower Ohio Valley. Ample moisture coupled with energy from this system will kick up areas of heavy rain, numerous showers, and strong thunderstorms in areas of the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys, Mid-Atlantic, and the Southeast. In addition to rain and thunderstorms, isolated strong to damaging wind gusts may accompany strong thunderstorm activity during the afternoon.

Meanwhile, to the north, a cold front and wave of low pressure will push eastward from the Northern Plains into the Upper Mississippi Valley and will extend into the Central Plains on Monday. This system will kick up isolated to scattered rain showers and thunderstorms from parts of the Upper Mississippi Valley and the Upper Great Lakes through the Central Plains. Parts of the Central Plains and the Mid-Mississippi Valley are at slight risk of severe thunderstorm development with hail, damaging wind gusts, and possibly a tornado.

In the West, limited shower and afternoon/evening thunderstorm activity is anticipated across the Intermountain West due to lingering monsoon moisture. Meanwhile, fire weather conditions are anticipated from western North Dakota and central and eastern Montana through parts of Wyoming and southeastern Idaho. Low humidity levels and northwest winds of 10-20 mph with higher gusts are expected to created the potential or rapid growth of new or existing fires. Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday have ranged from a morning low of 25 degrees at Stanley, Idaho to a high of 105 degrees at Yuma MCAS, Ariz.
