Buffalo AirStation AC1300/N900 Gigabit Dual Band WZR-D1800H

Buffalo is the first networking hardware vendor to bring an 802.11ac router to the market?the AirStation AC1300/N900 Gigabit Dual Band WZR-D1800H. Not only is 11ac functionality added to the AirStation, but the actual design has been refreshed from previous AirStations to make for a modern-looking, stylish device. Performance results show that the 802.11ac standard is technology to get excited about, as the device set a new router throughput record in testing (and that's testing with an 802.11n client). The only unfortunate aspect to the D1800H is an atrocious, cluttered management interface that looks like a frame-based website from the 1990s.

802.11ac and the AirStation Design
The first thing you should notice about the latest AirStation router is that its name does not contain the words "802.11ac." This is because the 802.11ac standard has not yet been ratified so no routers can be given the Wi-Fi Alliance?s certification as 802.11ac devices. The packaging details (in very small letters) that the router is?802.11ac draft.

The D1800H?s chassis deviates from the standard black, shiny plastic housing of other AirStation routers such as the Buffalo AirStation Nfiniti High Power Giga Wireless-N Router & Access Point (WZR-HP-G450H). Instead, the chassis has a matte, black casing (which is very prone to smudge)?with a dark grey decorative framing. Gone are the external antennas of previous AirStations.

Inside, the router uses the Broadcom chipset, which makes sense as Broadcom is the first chip maker to manufacture Gigabit 802.11ac chips. The D1800H also uses a 3x3 MIMO antenna configuration.

The back panel has a button to power the router on and off, a USB port, USB device eject button, WAN port, and four Gigabit Ethernet ports. There's also a button to turn on and off the WAN connection.

The front of the router has an AOSS button. AOSS is Buffalo's proprietary version of WPS (Wireless Protected Setup) although the D1800H also supports WPS. There are also three LEDs on the front for Wi-Fi connectivity, WAN activity, and a Router LED indicating if router functionality is enabled.

The unit ships with a stand to operate it horizontally, but you can lay it flat as well, although the sides bulge out just slightly. Wall mount screws are included and there are pre-made holes in between the frame and chassis to mount the device.

Other contents that come in the package include an illustrated setup guide, a connection guide for Android devices, an AirNavigation CD, and a handy plastic card that has the pre-configured SSID, password key, and wireless security type printed on it.

loading...

Setup
On power-up, the D1800H's Buffalo logo glows red. Once the router is fully initialized, the emblem glows a soft white and the LEDs light up blue.

You can use either the instructions printed on the setup guide or the AirStation CD to set up the device. Advanced users can use the setup guide but newbies may get confused because there are a few steps missing in the guide. For instance, the guide instructs Windows users to go the wireless settings in the Windows 7 system tray and enter the credentials printed on the plastic card for setting up wireless connectivity. The step missing is that you have to actually click from the wireless settings into Windows' "Open Network and Sharing Center" and then setup a new wireless connection. From there, you can enter the proper credentials.

Setup using the CD is simpler although Buffalo still has not created a "no-brainer" wireless, automated setup experience such as Cisco Linksys offers with its EA series routers. However, most users should have little problem following the CD's setup wizard.

Of course, you can also bypass the CD and guide and simply connect a cable to one of the LAN ports. You can then fire up a browser to the IP address of the router which is 192.168.11.1 and configure the router, provided the computer you are using to setup is DHCP-enabled.

The Mass Income Multiplier Is Just What We're Going To Be ...

Many folks have turned to the Internet so that they can make cash as a method to supplement or even replace their current income. Because making cash online was not as simple as many individuals thought, quite a lot of them ended up failing and not finding success making money on the internet. Right now there are auto pilot income programs which are available which will permit you to set something up and start earning an income from it with no extra work. The Mass Income Multiplier is just one of the programs available today that provide you with a program so you are able to begin making money almost completely on autopilot.

This program will in fact tell you just how their software?s going to work, actually they show you the software during the introduction video they have on their internet site. For people who have invested in programs online before I am sure you realize that this is a thing that is very rare as most people keep their program a secret until you purchase it. Obviously you should also realize that one of the primary reasons people do not tell you what their software does right off the bat is either because you could do it yourself or the software is worthless. This is simply one of the ways that this program proves that it?s not a scam because before you spend one red cent you are going to find out what this program is centered on. iphoneapplicationdevelopmenthq.com

When you watch the video it appears as if the program is entirely automated, but you need to be aware that there will be work involved in order to make everything work. The basics of the program is you need traffic so as to make money, and that is just what they supply you with, a program that will actually get this traffic for you for free. List building is a thing that is vitally important to do if you have a web based business and this program helps you use this traffic in order to build your list very quickly. how to lose chest fat

There?s also an area that is going to be tracking your visitors so you?ll actually have the ability to see how this program is working from the very beginning. You are in addition going to be able to keep track of your subscribers, as you will also be provided real time stats on how many people have subscribed to your list. Something you need to understand is you can even use this to e-mail everyone who does sign up for your list. Leaky Gut Cure

With regards to the price of this program it is one more thing which will surprise you do to the fact that you get all of this for just under $50.00. For individuals who purchase, I am certain you?ll be glad to realize that they offer a no questions asked cash back guarantee, which is good for two months from purchase.

Aereo gets broadcasters unfair competition claim dismissed, still faces federal wrath for copyright infringement

Aereo's mini-antenna arrays started streaming OTA television broadcasts in Gotham a couple months ago in spite of the lawsuit filed by a few of New York's local stations to stop them from doing so. Today, it was able to dismiss its opponents' state law unfair competition claim under the theory of federal preemption. Essentially, Aereo argued (and the judge agreed) that the anti-competition claim was actually an attempt to vindicate the broadcasters' rights to control the performance of their copyrighted materials. Because those rights are granted under federal law, the state law claim was preempted and dismissed from the lawsuit pursuant to the Copyright Act. Despite this courtroom victory, Aereo still has a lot of legal legwork to do, as it still faces two copyright claims that could still shut down the OTA streaming party. Stay tuned.

Reversible doping: Hydrogen flips switch on vanadium oxide

Monday, May 21, 2012

If you are not a condensed matter physicist, vanadium oxide (VO2) may be the coolest material you've never heard of. It's a metal. It's an insulator. It's a window coating and an optical switch. And thanks to a new study by physicists at Rice University, scientists have a new way to reversibly alter VO2's electronic properties by treating it with one of the simplest substances -- hydrogen.

So what is VO2? It's an oxidized form of the metal vanadium, an ingredient in hardened steel. When oxygen reacts with vanadium to form VO2, the atoms form crystals that look like long rectangular boxes. The vanadium atoms line up along the four edges of the box in regularly spaced rows. A single crystal of VO2 can have many of these boxes lined up side by side, and the crystals conduct electricity like wire as long as they are kept warm.

"The weird thing about this material is that if you cool it, when you get to 67 degrees Celsius, it goes through a phase transition that is both electronic and structural," said Rice's Douglas Natelson, lead co-author of the study in this week's Nature Nanotechnology. "Structurally, the vanadium atoms pair up and each pair is slightly canted, so you no longer have these long chains. When the phase changes, and these pairings take place, the material changes from being a electrical conductor to an electrical insulator."

While other materials exhibit a similar electronic about-face, VO2 is unique in that the change occurs at a relatively modest temperature -- around 153 degrees Fahrenheit -- and sometimes at incredible speed -- less than a trillionth of second. In recent years, scientists have put these quirky properties to work. In 2004, a group in London used VO2 to design a temperature-sensitive window coating that could absorb sunlight on cold days and turn reflective on hot days. And electronics researchers are also working to create optical switches from VO2.

"As an experimental physicist, VO2 is intriguing because the detailed physics of the material are still not well understood, and theoretical models alone cannot give us the answers," said Natelson, professor of physics and astronomy and of electrical and computer engineering at Rice. "Experiments are key to understanding this."

In 2010, Natelson and postdoctoral research associate Jiang Wei began to systematically study the phase changes in VO2. Wei and graduate student Heng Ji began by using a process called vapor deposition to grow VO2 wires that were about 1,000 times smaller than a human hair. One set of experiments on wires that had been baked in the presence of hydrogen gas returned particularly odd readings. Wei, Ji and Natelson determined that the hydrogen was apparently modifying the VO2 nanowires, but only those in contact with metal electrodes.

"The gold electrodes we were using to supply current to the experiment were acting as a catalyst that split the hydrogen gas molecules into atomic hydrogen, which could then diffuse into channels in the VO2," Natelson said. "It appears that the hydrogen is taken up into the VO2 crystals, and this changes their electronic properties. If a little hydrogen is added, the phase transition happens at a slightly lower temperature, and the insulating phase becomes more conductive. If enough hydrogen is added, the transition to the insulating phase disappears altogether."

To gain insight into just how the hydrogen is able to alter the transition, the experimenters consulted with theoretical physicist Andriy Nevidomskyy, assistant professor of physics and astronomy at Rice. Nevidomskyy's calculations showed that the hydrogen changes the amount of charge in the VO2 material and also forces the crystal to expand slightly. Both of these effects favor the metallic state.

This is not the first time physicists have lowered the transition temperature of VO2 by adding other materials -- a technique known as "doping." But Natelson said Rice's hydrogen doping is unique in that it is completely reversible: To remove the hydrogen, the material simply has to be baked in an oven at moderate temperature.

"On the applied side, there may be a number of applications for this, like ultrasensitive hydrogen sensors," Natelson said. "But the more immediate payoff will likely be in helping us to better understand the physics involved in the VO2 phase transition. If we can find out exactly how much hydrogen is required to shut down the transition, then we will have a knob that we can turn to systematically raise or lower the temperature in future experiments."

Oil rises on China calls for growth, Iran

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Oil prices rose on Monday after China's premier called for more efforts to stimulate growth and as investors cautiously awaited results of Iran's second round of revived talks with major powers over Tehran's nuclear program.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's call for "giving more priority to maintaining growth" signaled Beijing's willingness to take action after several recent economic indicators suggested that the economy could continue to slow.

"China's central bank has already cut bank reserve requirements to stimulate growth and such comments suggest that even more may be done in the months ahead to ward off a hard landing," Addison Armstrong, a senior director at Tradition Energy, said in a note.

Hopes for Chinese stimulus and the Group of Eight industrialized nations' emphasis on the need for growth and jobs at their Saturday summit provided a lift to oil, U.S. and European equities and key industrial feedstock copper. <.n><.eu>

The G8 backed keeping Greece in the euro zone, but gave no specific prescription for resolving the widening debt crisis.

G8 leaders did raise pressure on Iran by signaling a readiness to tap strategic oil stockpiles quickly if sanctions on Tehran strain supplies.

Brent July crude rose $1.67 to settle at $108.81 a barrel, reaching $109.26 intraday. The gain snapped a string of three lower settlements and followed Brent's 10.59 percent slide in the preceding three weeks.

After six straight lower settlements, U.S. June crude rose $1.09 to settle at $92.57. The June contract expires on Tuesday, with U.S. crude also trying to break a string of three weekly losses.

U.S. RBOB gasoline and heating oil also closed higher, with gasoline receiving a lift ahead of the Memorial Day holiday weekend, the traditional start of the summer driving season.

Total crude trading volumes were lackluster, around 33 percent below 30-day averages for both Brent and U.S. crude in post-settlement trading. Analysts and brokers cited the approach to the U.S. June contract expiration and caution ahead of Iran's nuclear talks this week as helping keep volume curbed.

Brent's premium to U.S. crude increased to $15.95 a barrel based on July contract settlements, after Saturday's start of the Seaway crude pipeline reversal.

The Seaway pipeline began pumping crude from Cushing, Oklahoma, to the U.S. Gulf Coast. The reversal is intended to ease a glut of crude in the U.S. Midwest and is expected to reduce Brent's premium to U.S. crude.

U.S. crude oil stocks were expected to have increased last week, a ninth straight rise, according to a Reuters survey of analysts on Monday. Fuel stocks were seen unchanged.

The euro turned positive against the U.S. dollar, lifted by gains in European and U.S. equities. The dollar index <.dxy> weakened. A weaker U.S. currency can be supportive to dollar-denominated commodities by making them less expensive for customers using other currencies.

THE IRANIAN WILD CARD

The U.N.'s International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief Yukiya Amano held talks in Iran on Monday and expects them to have a positive impact on Wednesday's six-power meeting, Iranian media said.

But there was no sign of a breakthrough deal and there was no immediate comment from the IAEA.

Amano met the head of Iran's nuclear energy agency, Fereydoun Abbasi-Davani, and its top nuclear negotiator, Saeed Jalili, who will meet in Baghdad on Wednesday with the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council and Germany.

Traders and analysts remain skeptical that negotiations will succeed as a European Union ban on Iranian oil set for July approaches, but concerns about a conflict in the region and disrupted oil supply were eased by April's restart of talks.

Increased production from Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Libya have helped push U.S. crude oil inventories to a 21-year peak and allowed Iran's customers to seek alternative barrels in the face of tightening sanctions on Tehran.

China's crude oil imports from Iran rebounded more than 50 percent in April from March after resolving pricing disputes over term contracts, but shipments fell nearly a quarter from a year ago.

Ways To Reduce The Cancer-Causing Effects of Cell Phones ?

Sayer Ji, ?GreenMedInfo

? GreenMedInfo

Ever since the World Health Organization admitted in 2011 that cell phone radiation is ?possibly carcinogenic,? and may be contributing to the global uptick in brain cancer cases, its far harder to label someone a hypochondriac for being concerned about the health consequences of exposure.[i]
In fact, one study cited in their report showed a 40% increased risk for gliomas in the highest category of heavy users (reported average: 30 minutes per day over a 10-year period)? -? not exactly a small effect.
A recent study published in the journal Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology confirms that the microwave radiation given off by mobile phones is capable of transforming normal cells into cancerous ones.
Titled ?Cellular Neoplastic Transformation Induced by 916 MHz Microwave Radiation,? researchers exposed fibroblast cells, a connective tissue-producing type of cell, to 916 MHz electromagnetic frequencies (which have already been shown to alter brain biomolecules), and found that after 5-8 weeks exposure they changed their form and rate of proliferation to a cancerous phenotype.
These cells were also found to be tumor-forming when transplanted into mice.
What You Can Do To Protect Yourself
Realistically, most people reading this article will not be decommissioning their iphones or androids anytime soon. These devices enable us to stay closely connected to our loved ones, as well as to connect to the global brain which is the internet. But what this research does implore us to do is to exercise caution. Here are a few steps to take to reduce exposure:
 • Wear a headset or earphones to keep the device as far away from your head and/or other vital organs as possible.
 • Turn the device off whenever it is not being used.
 • If you are a heavy user, consider incorporating one of the following proven cell-phone radiation mitigating substances:
 • Bee Propolis? -? A compound found within bee propolis, which is like the mortar the bees use to repair and maintain the structural integrity of their hive, known as caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE), has been experimentally tested to protect the kidneys, hearts and retinas of cell-phone exposed mice. Our bee propolis research page actually lists 12 studies on its radioprotective properties, including protecting against diagnostic and/or ?therapeutic? (e.g. radiotherapy) gamma-radiation.
 • Melatonin? -? Melatonin is released during deep, restful sleep? -? which is always the best way to obtain this natural protective secretion. Melatonin has been studied for its ability to protect against cell-phone induced retinal and kidney damage.? Like propolis, melatonin has also been shown to have powerful radioprotective properties against gamma-radiation induced oxidative stress and tissue injury.
 • EGCG (green tea polyphenol)? -? Green tea contains a potent antioxidant known as EGCG (epigallocatechin-gallate) and which has been shown to protect the liver against mobile-phone induced radiation damage.
 • Ginkgo Biloba? -? This plant never ceases to amaze. Not only is it the oldest living plant (a ?living fossil?) known to man, but it seems to provide a broad range of benefits to brain and cognitive health.? It has been experimentally confirmed to prevent mobile-phone induced oxidative stress in the rat brain.
 • N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC)? -? NAC is the the precursor to glutathione, a powerful cell-protective antioxidant that your body produces, given it has adequate cofactors available.? It has been shown to protect the liver against mobile-phone induced damage.

For additional tips, read contributing writer, Susan Calabro?s nifty article titled ?4-Acupuncture-Inspired Ways to Stop Neurotic Phone Checking?
For those interested in learning more about the plausible mechanism through which cell phones cause brain cancer, listen to Dr. Chris Busby?s explanation:

The Circus "NO SPIN ZONE": Strombergs Exotic Pet's and Chick ...

?bear cubs for $250.00

Anybody who still questions why there was a need for some sort of regulation(granted before it got way out of whack, like most good intentions) hasn't studied their history.? Who remembers the Stromberg Exotic Pet Catalog?? Who had a Stromberg's?? I did. ordered on of the first copies when it came out in 1969 for the low cost of .50.?? I studied it, looked at it, dog eared it, circled what I wanted, and erased it when I changed my mind and wanted something else.? I recall they had zebra colts for $3500.00 and buffalo calves for $2500.00.? Dali's anteater was a little over $100.00. ? I actually contacted the company about one of their wooley monkeys, inquiring if they thought fringe from a Roy Rogers Gold Eagle shirt(which I assumed my mother would make for me) would scare the little chap.?? The company was kind enough to write back saying they didn't think so, and I could dress him in just about anything I wanted, as he enjoyed dressing up.? Wiser heads prevailed(plus I never had the big funds) and my father ended up loaning me 50.00 to buy a mule colt instead.

The company is still in business today, but only dealing with poultry/fowl and supplies.? In the interesting bio of the founder of the company Loyl Stromberg, there is nary a mention of the "exotic animal" branch of the company in the early day's.? You have to wonder if they are distancing themselves from the fact?? Live and learn, don't sweep it under a rug.

Feds say pilot tried to bring gun on plane in NY

(AP) ? An airline pilot is accused of trying to board a flight at Buffalo for New York City with a loaded revolver in his bag, and authorities believe he'd been flying with it for two days.

The U.S. Attorney's Office charged 52-year-old Brett Dieter of Barbersville, Va., with possessing a concealed firearm. A screener spotted the .357 Magnum before Dieter boarded Friday at Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

Dieter was to pilot a Piedmont Airlines flight to LaGuardia International Airport.

Investigators believe Dieter had been flying with the gun since Wednesday, when he flew from Charlottesville, Va., to New York City without having his bag X-rayed. He'd made seven flights since.

Dieter appeared without a lawyer in court. He's due back May 23. He couldn't be reached by phone Friday.

A Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman said pilots cannot carry weapons on board aircraft unless they are members of a federal Flight Deck Officer Program. She said Dieter is not a member of the program, and TSA is investigating what routes he took to board planes he previously piloted. She said that in many airports, pilots can reach the aircraft through "access points" other than checkpoints.

US Airways spokesman William McGlashen said he didn't know how long Dieter had been with Piedmont, a subsidiary of US Airways. He said an internal investigation was under way.

Have You Got Any Klout? | Online PR Agency Leeds, Yorkshire PR ...

Call me slow but Klout was something I stumbled across six months ago. At first it was something I looked at with amusement, but over time it is something I have started to take more seriously and I?m not entirely sure why. Perhaps it?s down to the ego boost? It could possibly be down to the belief that I might receive free gifts? Whatever it is, in a short space of time I?ve started looking at my Klout score more seriously.

Over the last month my Klout score has been steady at around 45, recently hitting the dizzying heights of 46. This feels like an achievement, but I couldn?t say what it is that I?ve achieved. All I know is that whenever Match of the Day comes on my score will rise as I tweet about every game.

There is a lot of talk of people getting jobs because of their high score, and perfectly acceptable candidates rejected because theirs was low. As well as job offers, people have reportedly received speaking jobs as well as some fantastic perks such as test drives, clothes and even awards show tickets. So far my only perks have been some free business cards.

Although it does analyse what you are tweeting about it is quite difficult to really track what people are talking about, or as Klout call it, influencing. Some of the main topics I am apparently an influencer in are football, propaganda, Spain and director. Football I understand, being the Leeds United fan that I am I follow a lot of other Leeds fans and most of my conversations are about Leeds or football. Spain is on the list because I went there on holiday last month, Propaganda because it is a club night in Leeds I occasionally attend and director, well, I?m not entirely sure why that?s there.

Now more businesses are jumping on the bandwagon. Cathay Pacific Airways have recently introduced an offer to allow anyone travelling with them from San Francisco with a Klout score of 40 or higher to be welcomed into their lounge, usually reserved for first class and business travellers. They will have access to workstations, showers and a noodle bar. It?s just a shame that my nearest airport is Leeds and Bradford.

I?m not entirely sure whether it?s something that organisations are doing out of fear. SouthWest Airline removed film director Kevin Smith from a flight, on which he had already taken his seat, for being too big. He launched a scathing attack on the company over Twitter to his 1.6 million followers and the airline were forced in to an apology. His tweets led to many more sharing similar stories and turned into a disaster for SouthWest.

?

Maybe they?re hoping that bribery will lead to good reviews. It stands to reason that those with high scores will have some level of authority on Twitter. By pandering to them many organisations will feel they are protecting themselves from those who they consider to be their biggest threat on social media. If that is the case however, would they not be better improving their customer service than offering test drives or hotel room upgrades because of their Klout?

Montreal, May 18, 2012 The surgical team at the Montreal Heart Institute (MHI) achieved a North American surgical milestone on May 1st with a sutureless aortic valve replacement through a thoracic incision just five centimetres long. The two patients in their seventies who underwent this innovative procedure, which was performed by cardiac surgeons Denis Bouchard and Michel Carrier, were doing well only one week after their operations.

A novel combination

"This innovative combination of implanting a Perceval S valve through a minimally invasive thoracotomy signals great progress for Quebec's aging population, as 3% of Quebeckers aged 75 and over suffer from severe aortic stenosis," stated Dr. Bouchard.

The sutureless valve opens like an umbrella and attaches to the walls of the aorta thanks to its elastic self-anchoring frame. No sutures are necessary, which decreases the risk of complications. Since the valve is inserted through a thoracic opening that is barely five centimetres long and is implanted without sutures, the surgery only takes one and a half hours, or twice as less time than a conventional open-heart procedure.

Patients regain mobility faster

One of the patients who received the surgery, Madeleine Lacombe, a very active 79-year-old grandmother who is an avid golfer, had suffered from swelling and shortness of breath for a number of months. Diagnosed with severe aortic stenosis, she was worried about open-heart surgery, which would require a long recovery period and make her miss out on enjoying the summer.

"I never thought I would get back on my feet so quickly!" she said a week after her quick procedure, relieved to be in such good form. "But I may have to forgo my tee times this year, as I can't find other 80-year-old women who can match my golf game!" She is happy to be going back home to her apartment in Saint-Hyacinthe at the end of May.

With both of his patients in good health, Dr. Bouchard is confident they will fully resume their normal lives within no more than a month of the surgery. "Not only will vulnerable patients such as Ms. Lacombe be at a lower risk of post-operative complications, they will also regain mobility three times faster with this new procedure," he explained.

With the success of both of these surgeries, the MHI is planning to perform 30 similar procedures in the coming year on elderly patients with higher surgical risks. Overall, more than 1600 cardiac procedures were performed in 2010-2011 at the MHI's surgical department.

U.S. pressures India to alienate strategic partner Iran

When Hillary Clinton visited the Indian capital last week, the prickly subject of Iran was top of her agenda for talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

But even as the American Secretary of State was bluntly asking India to get onside with Western sanctions against Iran and its nuclear program, another set of meetings with Indian officials was in progress just down the road. That one was full of Iranian government delegates and business people, here to sign new trade deals.

More related to this story

India is walking a precarious line these days, attempting to placate the U.S., with whom it has a rapidly growing trade and strategic relationship, while retaining close relations with Iran ? a regional friend that?s a source of badly-needed fuel, and more.

Ms. Clinton?s main focus was India?s purchase of Iranian oil. India is currently the number-two buyer of Iranian crude, which makes up 12 per cent of the energy need of this fuel-hungry nation. When the U.S. and European Union sanctions aimed at ending Iran?s nuclear program started to squeeze the international banking system, making it hard for India to pay for Iranian oil, the two countries worked out a scheme that lets India pay nearly half its bill in rupees ? which Iran then spends on Indian food and pharmaceutical imports.

?It?s a double win for New Delhi,? said Neil Padukone, a fellow with the Takshashila Institution, a think tank focused on Indian strategic issues.

Nevertheless India?s Deputy Oil Minister R. P. N. Singh told parliament on Tuesday that fuel imports from Iran will be reduced, to a total of 114 million barrels in the financial year ending next March, down from 128 million the previous year, saying bluntly that the country has to maintain its strategic relationship with the U.S.

It?s not clear that will be enough for the Americans, who sent another envoy here Tuesday to talk energy and Iran with senior officials. India wants a waiver to exempt it from sanctions; the U.S. has said it hasn?t cut back enough.

Anxious to feed an economy growing at about 6.5 per cent this year, and reliant on imports for 80 per cent of its energy needs, India insists it can?t afford to cut back much more than it already has. Its oil imports from Iran date back to the era of the Shah, and many major Indian refineries are outfitted specifically to process Iranian sweet, light crude; it is no small task to retrofit them.

That said, as the financial channels for trade are choked off, oil purchases from Iran will fall even further, predicted Gopalaswami Parthasarathy, a veteran diplomat and analyst of Indian foreign policy.

India?s main oil supplier is Saudi Arabia, and the Saudis have offered to bump up sales to India to cover a drop in supply from Iran ? the Saudis would also like to see India cut Iran off further, as part of the Sunni-Shiite struggle for dominance underway in the Middle East, noted Anwar Alam, director of the Centre for West Asian Studies at Jamia Milia Islamia University in Delhi.

?India has a vital stake in the Persian Gulf,? he said. ?It has six million workers there which constitute the largest remittances sent to India, and $120-billion in trade with [Gulf Cooperation Council] countries.?

Yet while oil is the most obvious tie between India and Iran at present, India has a number of other key strategic motives for maintaining this relationship.

The first is Afghanistan. India has a large and growing presence there: its public face an aid program (India is the largest individual donor to the Afghans), its private face a humming intelligence network aimed at checking the Pakistani influence and thwarting the export of Islamist fundamentalism.

Buying Tips on Pre-Owned Cars ? 3A Automotive

We often have customers who are ready for a newer vehicle yet they don?t want to take on the hefty payments of a brand new car. And according to many financial advisors, buying a brand new vehicle isn?t always the wisest financial move for most household budgets. So how can you get a newer car, save some cash and ensure you are not buying into somebody else?s auto repair nightmare?

Whether you buy a pre-owned vehicle like a Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, Honda, Acura, Toyota, Lexus, Range Rover, Land Rover, Nissan, Infinity, Diesel or Hybrid, from a dealer or from an independent seller, the number one most important thing you can do is to have that vehicle inspected by a non-bias third party mechanic. Ideally, this is your trusted auto repair shop in Phoenix. Most of the top repair shops have a very affordable Buyer?s Inspection service that allows you to have a professional technician comb through the entire vehicle BEFORE YOU BUY.

A professional auto mechanic?s eye will catch things that the average consumer will not. For example, if you open the hood of a vehicle on a car lot you will usually find a clean, bright and shiny engine compartment. The dealership has detailed every aspect of that vehicle leading an excited buyer to believe that it is a well-maintained machine. A properly performed buyer?s inspection done by a professional mechanic will detect most leaks even on a clean engine. And they will check the fluids inside the engine and other moving components to ensure there isn?t any ?red flags? that you can?t see from the outside. They will also base the condition of the hoses and belts on the car by their feel and signs of wear rather than the shine the dealer has put on them.

The professional is also looking for things like uneven door and fender lines, which can indicate a wreck in the car?s past. They will pick the vehicle up on a lift and look for any overspray, new undercar coating, or new fender/bumper brackets that can also be an indicator of past damage.

Finally, they will drive the vehicle. A professional drives dozens of different cars a week. They know when something on that car doesn?t feel right, sound right or look right.

A properly performed Buyer?s Inspection at your local auto repair shop in Phoenix is well worth the investment. Most of the time the automotive mechanic will give you enough information on future repairs and service, that you can negotiate the price down to cover the inspection and the future services.

So when you are looking to update your vehicle make sure to get professional advice before you sign any contracts. Having to deal with Lemon Laws and Warranties after the purchase is a lot more of a hassle than having your trusted auto repair shop help you make a wise purchasing decision.

Buffalo beats others to the 802.11ac WiFi punch, ships 1.3Gbps router and bridge

Image

As intrigued as we were by the Netgear R6300's high-bandwidth chops, it won't be the one to claim the early 802.11ac WiFi crown with a shipping product. That distinction is instead going to a Buffalo AirStation router and a matching bridge, both of which should be on shelves now. Either can hit the eye-watering 1.3Gbps peak speed of the standard if you get cozy on the 5GHz band -- and if you have a computer or mobile device that recognizes the spec, for that matter. The duo still has a more leisurely paced 2.4GHz, 450Mbps WiFi option as well as a quartet of Ethernet jacks if you prefer your gigabit speeds the old-fashioned way. Both the router and the bridge will set you back $180 each, so there's not much of a penalty versus high-end alternatives to satisfy your need for network speed.
